Philippine Muslim secessionist group's denial of recruitment scam a BIG lie
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) today (January 12, 2008) denied it is involved in a massive recruitment-for-fee activities in Sulu. On its website (www.luwaran.com), the Al-Qaeda linked separatist group denied reports received by the area's division chief that--posing as members of MNLF, another separatist group which signed a peace treaty with the government--are duping local Muslims that the recruitment process will pave way for a military career in the Philippine Army. This is bullshit, and one that the MILF can only sell to ignorant politicians outside Mindanao. Everybody from the island, specially media people close to MILF areas of influence, that the separatist group is, has been, and will be, engaging in a slew of money-making activities, including kidnapping--a profitable venture it has successfully "outsourced" to its "renegade members." The MILF has a long list of revenue sources to keep the organization going--milking the locals with fees (which the MILF operators say they charge for IDs, processing fees, etc. etc.) to nonexistent future is one. Well, the group do get foreign funds, but with the global war on terrorism, MILF is at times cash-strapped. And what better alternative could be than the local "resources?" |
